A grassroots movement in Europe is crying out against “green” policies that caused energy prices to soar. One such movement, the U.K. Independence Party, won a historic victory in May with attacks on the European Union and EU bureaucrats, in part by sending out the message that without the EU, every UK fuel bill would be far cheaper. In a country where tens of thousands died last winter due to cold weather, the push to lift citizens out of “energy poverty” is swiftly gaining traction. Now, ordinary European citizens are calling for restrictions to be lifted on carbon fuels and natural gas, and for the restoration of policies that make energy affordable and accessible to the poorest people.
